Russia Announce Squad To Reclaim Title

EuroBasket Women 2011

Russia coach Boris Sokolovsky has announced his squad for the EuroBasket Women.

The team is led by Svetlana Abrosimova, a 30-year-old veteran made captain by Sokolovsky during the team's preparations.

The versatile Abrosimova was an all-tournament team selection in Latvia two years ago when the Russians won the silver medal and will be handling the point guard duties.

She is one of the toughest players in Europe, demonstrated by the stitches she needed to close a cut on her eyebrow she received in Russia's friendly against Belarus at the weekend.

Russia will play in Group A against Turkey, Lithuania and Slovakia.

Their first game in Bydgoszcz on Saturday is against the Slovakians.

Russia squad: Olga Arteshina, Tatiana Vidmer, Evgenia Belyakova, Marina Kuzina, Maria Cherepanova, Liudmila Sapova, Natalya Myasoedova, Irina Osipova, Maria Stepanova, Svetlana Abrosimova, Elena Danilochkina, Katerina Keyru, Ilona Korstin, Tatiana Popova.
