Veteran Joanna Czarnecka has seen her hopes of representing Poland at this month's EuroBasket dashed with the coaching staff deciding to make her the last cut.

The tournament gets underway on Saturday and there wasn't enough room in the squad for the 1.92m Czarnecka, who can play power forward or center.

"It was a very tough decision," Poland coach Dariusz Maciejewski said.

"Together with the coaches, we discussed this subject more than half an hour, trying to choose what's best for the team.

"We analyzed the pros and cons.

"We looked at three people, eventually deciding to let Joanna Czarnecka go home."

The Poles will play in Group C in Katowice against Spain, Montenegro and either Germany or Hungary - the two sides in the Additional Qualifying Tournament Final.

Poland squad: Katarzyna Dźwigalska, Paulina Pawlak, Anna Pietrzak, Małgorzata Babicka, Agnieszka Kaczmarczyk, Katarzyna Krężel, Elżbieta Mowlik, Agnieszka Skobel, Agnieszka Szott, Justyna Żurowska, Emilia Tłumak, Aleksandra Chomać, Patrycja Gulak-Lipka and Ewelina Kobryn.
